Knowledge, opinions and behaviors of the university students towards sexuality and reproductive health

The research was planned with the aim of determining the knowledge, views and behaviors of university students about sexuality and reproductive health. Method: This is a descriptive study. The population of the study consisted of the students (N= 950) who were studying at the Vocational School of Social Sciences between April and May 2014. The sample consisted of 315 students. Results: The students are %52.4 girls. The male students 82.4% were significantly higher than the female students 17.6% (p<0.000). The rate of students who talked with their parents about the issues of sexuality was 35.6%, which was seen to be higher in females than males (p <0.000) and while female students talked more comfortably with their mothers, the male students talked more comfortably with their fathers. The students stated that 68.9% the first sexual education should be given in the family. Knowledge level of the students about the family planning (FP) was moderate (52.6%). Conclusion: It has been determined that students do not have enough knowledge about sexual health and family planning issues. Peer-based trainings should be planned at universities and the establishment of sexual health counseling units is recommended.
