An Applıed Analysıs On Organızatıonal Stress Management And The Effect Of Stress On Job Performance Of Publıc Sector Staff1


The fact that organizational stress and stress management create a highly significant effect on individuals and societies has been demonstrated with literature researches. Stress is now an important problem that is heavily emphasized and pointed as the reason of many various health problems. In this research, the emphasis is laid on the effect of stress factor on performance and how this affects labor productivity. The decrease in labor productivity that occurs because of work load and job stress with which public sector staff have now difficulty in coping doesn’t allow many public institutions act effectively. This is an applied research, and a 5-point Likert scaled questionnaire has been used in the application. This questionnaire has previously been used in a different research; its validity and reliability have been ensured. The measurement tool-questionnaire- is composed of 15 parts and 136 scaled questions. The research approximately lasted for 8 months. Turkey is the research population and the provinces of İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Bursa, Diyarbakır, Edirne, Van, Trabzon, Samsun, Kayseri and Antalya are the samples. A total of (N=851) people have participated in the research. 421 of the participants are male and 430 of them are female. Age average of the participants is 26-33. The number of married and university graduate participants is above the average. Simple random sampling has been used in the research. All participants have been randomly selected. None of the participants have been asked for information regarding identity. Following the research, data obtained have been analyzed with SPSS statistics 18 program and it has been decided that the stress will be evaluated under 8 factors within the framework of the findings obtained from the analysis. It has been concluded after the research that stress mostly creates negative effects on job performance and efficiency; there is a decrease in performance and efficiency of the participants and loss of motivation due to the stress. It has also been concluded that variables become effective on the stress factor according to age, sex, culture, education, position and management style.
