Effects of mortar strength on the bond resistance between the bricklayers under applied in-plane shear loads


A masonry structure consists of units such as stone or brick with mortar between these units. Masonry is one of the oldest construction materials and structures in ancient times consist of very common examples of masonry units. For example, bricks have been extensively used as a structural material in the several types of constructions. Today, the units of bricks joined with mortar are also commonly used for the construction of internal and external walls in modern high rise buildings and moderate height residential buildings. Researchers, especially in recent years, have been interested to analyse the behaviour of the masonry structures under different loading conditions. In this investigation, different kinds of mortars of different strengths were prepared and brick walls were constructed by using these different mortars and the effects of mortar strength on the resistance of brick walls under applied in-plane shear loads were determined.
